What Is It?
As part of our mission for queer equity, joy, and liberation in the Northeast Kingdom, the NEK Rainbow Coalition Wings program raises and distributes micro-grant funds to transgender and gender-nonconforming applicants of the Northeast Kingdom. All applications must be vetted and approved by the grant committee. Grants are paid directly to service providers, such as doctors, estheticians, retail establishments, and drivers.
What Is Eligible?
Gender Affirming Care is defined as gender-related medical or social intervention that is done for the intended benefit of one’s wellbeing. Services eligible for grants include:
- Name change fee
- Medical appointment co-pay
- Appointment transportation
- Permanent hair removal
- Gender-affirming clothing
- Gender-affirming hairstyling
Other services may be eligible, subject to the approval of both the Gender Care Grant Committee and the Northeast Kingdom Rainbow Coalition Board.
How Does It Work?
First, you apply for the grant. Then we set up a meeting or video call to confirm your eligibility. We reserve the right to deny applications for reasons including, but not limited to, budget restraints, conflicts of interest, and unresolved questions of eligibility.
Funds are not given in cash. They may be disbursed at point of service by a member of the Northeast Kingdom Rainbow Coalition Board, or used to purchase gift cards, gift certificates, or other vouchers from a business that provides the approved services.
The NEKRC is proud to be launching this first-of-its-kind program to support our transgender and gender non-conforming community members in this way and we hope to lift up as many people as possible.
